Unit 1, Final Piece

This is my final piece for my project, How is environmental impact of climate change portrayed through art? The reason why I chose to create a video with different camera angles is so I could capture each of the different effects which it had on the final piece. By this I mean how the effect of the ice melting, which symbolises ice caps and the phone issue, and the destruction of the ink drawing.

These are 4 of the videos which will come together to create my overall final piece

Ink test

This is an ink experiment to help me prepare for my final piece. The reason why I am looking into how water reacts to ink is because I can develop this idea by creating an ink drawing of an endangered animal then the water symbolises how a environmental issue, Ice caps melting, carbon emissions, greenhouse gases, pollution phone issue all lead to the cause of climate change which contributes to the endangered animals.

When coming to film this I used 2 filming cameras to get both perspective of the ink and when it reacts with the water.

This is an example what I have found on the internet of how to improve my ink studies. With this you pre prep your page with water. I can include this in my own by developing the skill level when creating ink studies. This will allow me to use listed resources as this only uses water and ink.

Alex Produkt and Kathleen Weldon: Artist Research

Alex Product and Kathleen Weldon are artist who uses stop motion animatic to create short films. This will help me in my project as I can develop my skills on media and film making. I can use this is in my project. The reason why I have chosen to look at Patrick Watson music video for 'The Great Escape' is because they uses illustration to create a music video. To develop my project I can photograph each step of my drawing to create a stop motion animated illustrated by my drawings.

This is another stop motion project which both Alex Product ad Weldon both worked together to create the animations. The animations which occur to illustrate the music which is being played. Through this music video each different frame is a different drawing piece but when adding together during the editing process it creates a smooth trans view of it all.

Stop Motion Test

From looking at stop motion artist I thought it would help me develop and expand my project further to portray an issue. In todays society messages get round quicker via the interent. therefore, the messages which I want to get across that climate change is happening and is happening fast, will reach out to a wider audience.

This is a stop motion test to see how it turns out. The software which I used to edit these photographs together was iMovie. When trying this I realised That the image was zooming in then zooming back out.

This is my first stop motion test which allowed me to see what works and which doesn't.

From this is have created a sketch of the elephant and during the process taken pictures every 3 minutes to capture the stop motion process of the drawing.

In my second test of stop motion I photographs the different stages of the duration of melting ice with a mobile phone in the middle. Though these series of photographs I captured the process every 5 minutes from start to finish. From doing the first test of stop motion, during the editing process I realised that the image zooms in and zooms out which doesn't create the smooth effect of the animation. From looking at the setting of each frame the default setting in iMovie is set to 'crop to fill'. This means when a series of photographs are together they zoom in and zoom out.

However, to stop this change the default setting to 'Fit'. This allows the whole of the image to be shown without moving. This changes the size of the file so all the images are set to the same size frame.

This is the final stop motion video of the ice block melting with the phone in it. The reason why I have chosen to do this is because it sends awareness to 2 of the issues causing climate change. The first one being the ice caps are melting and the second is the phone issues- upgrade and throw away.

These are different screenshots from another stop motion test to experiment with different objects. This piece is a poster which is portraying that climate change is happening as we speak.

To develop this further I can create my own climate change poster filled with facts about what 'everyday things' can effect our climate such as. To improve this is can add objects which

This is another test of stop motion created with a climate change poster. When coming to developing my project I will create my own climate change poster creating an awareness for the issue. When coming to edit this I have edited it in reverse from the final ripped pieces to the complete poster.
